How to Make Keto-Friendly Whipped Cream
Making your own keto whipped cream for this recipe is easy! All you need is:
- Heavy whipping cream
- Keto-friendly sweetener (I typically use Swerve Confectioners)
- Vanilla extract (optional)
… and a little patience. Here is a recipe to follow.
The best part about keto whipped cream is that it contains almost no net carbs! Don’t go too crazy when eating it (it’s probably not a good idea to sit down on the sofa with a huge bowl of keto whipped cream and a spoon 😉), but you can definitely enjoy it in moderation on recipes like this one or some of my other recipes such as my Keto Pumpkin Spice Latte, Keto Peppermint Mocha, and Keto Lemon Smoothie.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Nutella OK for Keto?
Unfortunately, Nutella is not OK for keto. Nutella’s #1 ingredient is sugar, which is a no-no on keto. In fact, a single serving of Nutella (2 tbsp) contains a whopping 21g sugar! To give you an idea how much sugar that is, the American Heart Association recommends no more than 24g added sugar (i.e., not naturally found in the food) a day for women and no more than 36g for men.
Additionally, each serving contains 21g net carbs, which is close to how much most people eat a day on keto.
In contrast, the ChocZero Hazelnut Spread I use in this recipe contains 0g added sugar and only 1g net carbs per 2 tbsp. Needless to say, it makes a fantastic Nutella substitute!

Some of my favorite keto-friendly chocolate products of theirs include:
- Keto Peanut Butter Cups

Are hazelnuts keto approved?
Yes, hazelnuts are keto approved. 1 ounce of hazelnuts contains only 2g net carbs, making it an ideal keto nut along with macadamia nuts and pecans.
What spreads are Keto-friendly?
Most commercially available spreads are not keto-friendly, but ChocZero makes two keto-friendly spreads:
- ChocZero Chocolate Hazelnut Spread
- ChocZero White Chocolate Hazelnut Spread
These spreads are perfect for enjoying straight off the spoon, in keto coffee drinks like this one, and in recipes like this Keto Pancake Mug Cake.

I have a question about the nutrition information. When you list the Nutrtion facts, it says 3 net carbs, but when it lists the nutrition info on what looks like a Nutrtional label, it lists 20 carbs???
Hi Mary! Great question. Most people on keto choose to track net carbs, which is total carb grams minus fiber grams (and, if applicable, sugar alcohols). Here is more information about total vs. net carbs: https://keto-mojo.com/article/difference-between-total-carbs-and-net-carbs/
