How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Breasts {Quick Overview}
This is just a quick overview of some of the steps involved in making the chicken. For the recipe in detail, including exact measurements used at each step, scroll to the recipe card at the end of the post.
Optional: If you want, cover the chicken breasts with plastic wrap and use a meat mallet, rolling pin, or even the back of a skillet to pound them to an even thickness. This will help ensure even cooking. (Note: I didn’t do it for the two chicken breasts pictured here because they were already fairly even in size.)
Next, preheat your air fryer to 375°F if it has that option. If not, just turn it on for 2-3 minutes at 375°F before adding the chicken. Preheating the air fryer is a critical first step that many people mistakenly skip when using their air fryer!
Mix all the dry ingredients together in a small bowl.
Photo 1: Place the chicken breasts in a clean bowl or on a plate. Pat them dry, then rub them all over with olive oil.
Photo 2: Sprinkle the seasoning mix evenly over the chicken and rub it in so everything’s nicely coated.
Photo 3: Put the chicken breasts into the air fryer basket.
Photo 4: Cook them for about 22-25 minutes total, flipping at the 8, 16, and 20-minute marks, until they’re golden brown and the internal temperature hits 160°F. (See🌡Temperature Note below.)
Take them out of the air fryer and let them rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. This is also a critical step – don’t skip it! If you do, the juices will run out of your chicken breasts when you slice them, which will lead to dry chicken.
🌡Temperature Note: The FDA recommends cooking chicken to an internal temperature of 165 F. However, chicken will continue to cook and rise in temperature slightly even after being removed from the heat source, so I typically cook it to 160 F and allow it to rise the final five degrees on its own to keep it from being overcooked. However, if you would prefer to err on the side of caution, you can cook it to 165 F in the air fryer.
Pair with your favorite sides and enjoy!
