Why You’ll Love Keto Sausage Balls

  • They can be served as an appetizer or a snack. While I love serving these during the holidays, I also make them regularly throughout the year. They last a few days in the fridge and they’re great for snacking!
  • Each sausage ball contains less than 1g net carbs. Only 0.6g net carbs, to be exact!
  • The flavor can be modified based on your preference. Feel free to use mild or hot ground Italian sausage. You can also swap out the cheese for your favorite flavor.

Ingredients Needed to Make Low Carb Sausage Balls

  • Almond flour
  • Ground Italian sausage (mild or hot)
  • Shredded cheddar cheese, ideally hand-shredded ⭐
  • Egg
  • Heavy whipping cream
  • Italian seasoning
  • Salt (optional)

IMPORTANT TIP: Pre-shredded cheese contains anti-caking agents, which means the cheese won’t melt as easily. You can still use pre-shredded, but if you have the time, I recommend shredding your own from block cheese. I also find that hand-shredded cheese is a better “glue” for keeping the sausage balls together.

Let’s get started! This recipe is super easy to make.

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl, making sure the ingredients are evenly distributed.

Want to customize this recipe? You can use mild or hot ground Italian sausage, and you can swap out the cheese for your favorite flavor.

Using a cookie scoop and/or moistened hands, shape dough into 30 balls of 1 1/2 tbsp each, placing them on a cookie sheet.

TIP: Make sure the dough is very tightly packed so your sausage balls don’t fall apart while baking.

Add the baking sheet to your pre-heated oven and bake, rotating the sheet once during the baking process.

Serve and enjoy! These make an amazing appetizer and snack. They will technically last for several days in the fridge, but don’t expect them to last long. 🙂

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup almond flour
  • 1 lb ground Italian sausage mild or hot
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese ideally hand-shredded
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 2 tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 F.
  • Add all ingredients to a mixing bowl and mix until well combined.
  • Using a cookie scoop and/or moistened hands, shape dough into balls of 1 1/2 tbsp each, placing them on a cookie sheet. Make sure the dough is very tightly packed.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, rotating the pan once during the baking cycle, until the sausage balls are browned and have reached a safe internal temperature of at least 160 F.

Notes

Cheddar cheese is a classic addition to this recipe, but feel free to swap it for your cheese of choice.
