If you haven’t tried avocado in a smoothie yet, you’re seriously missing out. It makes smoothies thick and creamy without adding many net carbs (avocados are loaded with fiber, giving them a low net carb count) or any sugar. I like to think of avocados as “the keto banana” because adding bananas to smoothies also makes them thick and creamy, but obviously bananas are a no-go on keto… so avocados it is!
Even if you’re not a big avocado fan, I encourage you to give this recipe a try. When you add almond milk, sweetener, vanilla extract, and optional mix-ins (like cinnamon), you create a dreamy (and healthy) drink that does not taste like an avocado.

How to Customize This Keto Avocado Smoothie
Keto Avocado Milk is a fantastic base recipe. You can add all sorts of spices and extracts to make it your very own! Here are a few of my favorites:
- “Cinnamon Toast Crunch”: An extra tablespoon of Swerve Confectioners + 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- Pumpkin Pie: 1/4-1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice

- Blueberry: 4-6 drops of Capella Blueberry Flavoring Concentrate
The possibilities are endless! Let me know your favorite add-ins in the comments.
How to Make Keto Avocado Coconut Smoothie
You can easily use this recipe to create a keto avocado coconut smoothie. You will simply substitute coconut milk or vanilla coconut milk with the vanilla almond milk. Make sure to use coconut milk from a carton, not a can, to keep the macros comparable.
Can You Taste Avocado in a Smoothie?
When you flavor your smoothie, you can barely taste the avocado in your smoothie! Vanilla and cinnamon are a great combination that minimizes the avocado flavor.
Should I Use Frozen or Fresh Avocado in this Smoothie?
If you have access to them, I recommend using frozen avocado chunks in this smoothie (you can find them in the freezer section of a lot of grocery stores and big-box stores now, or you can make your own). They’ll make your smoothie cold and even thicker than fresh avocado. That said, if your blender is a bit iffy, use fresh avocado to avoid any blending issues.
Are Avocados Good for Keto?
Avocados are good for keto because they have very few carbs and they contain large servings of fiber. Foods containing plentiful amounts of fiber and low in carbs are ideal foods for the keto diet.
How to Make This Keto Avocado Smoothie into a Meal Replacement
It’s easy! Simply add a keto-friendly protein powder. You may need to add a bit more liquid (more almond milk, or even just water) to account for the added thickness from the protein powder.
TIP: If you use a vanilla protein powder, you can omit the added vanilla extract.
