Tips for Making Garlic Parmesan Chicken in the Air Fryer {Quick Overview}
Below you will find a few tips for making the recipe. For the recipe in detail, including exact measurements used at each step, scroll to the recipe card at the end of the post.
⭐Tip 1: Don’t skip the initial preheating phase! It really helps make your thighs super crispy on the outside.
⭐ Tip 2: Another step you definitely don’t want to skip is the resting phase at the end. It helps the thighs retain their juiciness.
⭐ Tip 3: Feel free to experiment with cooking the internal temperature a bit higher than 165°F. Chicken thighs are safe at 165°F, but I personally love them between 185°F and 195°F. At that range, the collagen turns to gelatin, making the chicken even juicier!
⭐ Tip 4: If you’re cooking for a crowd, consider doubling or tripling the recipe. These chicken thighs disappear lightning-fast. ⚡
Enjoy! These taste amazing.

Garlic Parmesan Chicken Thighs
Ingredients
- 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp salt
Instructions
- If your air fryer has the option, preheat it to 375 F. (If not, turn it on at 375 F for 2-3 minutes before adding chicken thighs at Step 5.)
- Combine garlic powder, Italian seasoning, baking powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl.
- Dry the chicken thighs with a paper towel and coat them evenly on both sides with olive oil. Then, place them in a bowl or on a plate.
- Sprinkle the seasoning mixture onto both sides of the chicken thighs and rub it in to coat evenly.
- Put the chicken thighs into the air fryer basket and cook for 10 minutes.
- Flip the chicken over with tongs and cook for an additional 6-10 minutes until the outside is crispy and brown.
- Sprinkle half the parmesan cheese over the chicken thighs and air fry again for 2 minutes. Flip the chicken thighs and repeat the process.
- Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature, ensuring it’s at least 175 F. (Tip: Although the chicken is technically done at this point, some people, myself included, prefer to heat it to 185-195 F for the best taste.)
- If necessary, further cook the chicken until it reaches the desired temperature.
- Remove the chicken thighs from the air fryer and sprinkle with additional parmesan cheese if desired.
- Let the thighs rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Excellent recipe! It was really crispy. I’ll be making this again!
This was really easy to make and super crispy!
Absolutely delicious recipe! I’ve already made it twice and am planning to do it again this weekend. Quick question, could I do this in the oven, maybe with a rack under the chicken? I love how crispy it turns out in the air fryer, but don’t have room for the amount of chicken I need to make.
Thank you so much, Ali! 😊 To convert air fryer recipes to oven recipes, you’ll want to increase the temp by 25 F and increase the cooking time by 25% (but keep an eye on things to make sure it doesn’t overcook). And yes, you will want to bake on a rack placed on top of a rimmed baking sheet to catch the fat that drips down.
Thank you so much! I appreciate the quick reply!
