Instructions
To Prepare Green Beans
If using frozen green beans, allow to thaw in the fridge overnight or for eight hours. Drain any excess water.
If using canned green beans, drain any excess water.
If using fresh green beans, blanch green beans and then cut into bite-sized pieces. (Not sure how to blanch beans? Check out the post for the "How to Blanch Green Beans" section.)
To Prepare Dish
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook bacon until crispy.
Turn off heat and carefully cut bacon into small pieces using a spatula or kitchen scissors. (If the bacon is too hot to handle, you can let it cool first.)
Remove bacon pieces from pan and set aside.
Return stovetop to medium heat. Add the chopped onion to the bacon grease in the skillet and saute the onions until they are starting to turn translucent.
Drain any remaining fat from the pan, then add Worcestershire sauce, Swerve Brown, and liquid smoke. Simmer for 2-3 minutes.
Add green beans to skillet and mix to coat the beans with the sauce. Cook for 10-12 minutes until green beans have softened.
Add bacon pieces to green beans, stir, and cook for 1-2 additional minutes to reheat the bacon.
Notes
If using frozen or canned green beans, use cut green beans, not whole green beans.
