I like to joke with my boyfriend that he was “on the keto diet before Pinterest knew about the keto diet.” It’s probably true to some degree — he has been eating keto for several years… but didn’t know he was eating keto. Through his own nutrition research, he ended up adopting a high-fat, low-carb, moderate-protein diet and loves it.

I stumbled upon the keto diet in June of 2017 through Pinterest and said to him, “Umm, do you realize you’re on the keto diet?” Although the keto diet has been around for a long time, no one can deny it has exploded in popularity in 2018. He’s been pretty pleased with himself for adopting the keto diet before it went mainstream. 😉

In this post, I’m going to share his FAVORITE Keto Coffee recipe that he has been making for a few years now (and I’ve started drinking too even though I’m not full-on keto). Now that his diet has a name, I’ve started calling it “Keto Crack Coffee.” This stuff will get you ROCKIN’ in the morning! It has some similarities to the super-popular Bulletproof Coffee, but Keto Crack Coffee has a few special ingredients that make it stand out.

Ingredients You’ll Need to Make Keto Crack Coffee

Let’s make some Keto Crack Coffee! You will need a few ingredients:

Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk

grab this at the store!

Whipping Cream

grab this at the store! (or, if you’re dairy-free like me, you can substitute it with nutpods Unsweetened Dairy-Free Creamer)

Death Wish Coffee

This is the star of the show and a critical ingredient for Keto Crack Coffee. Death Wish Coffee is an awesome coffee that bills itself as “The World’s Strongest Coffee.” It’s also organic and fair-trade (oh, and really good!).

Perfect Keto MCT Oil

MCT oil is loaded with healthy MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides), aka healthy fats. MCTs are a keto diet staple because you can put them in smoothies and coffee, on salads and veggies, etc. Use coupon code FORGETSUGAR20 for 20% off your order!

BetterStevia Liquid Sweetener

A convenient keto-friendly sweetener that has the best flavor of any liquid stevia I’ve tried (some are a bit iffy, but this one is great!).

Simply Organic Pure Vanilla Extract

A nice vanilla extract with a good flavor. I also sometimes use Trader Joe’s Bourbon Vanilla Extract.

All of those ingredients mixed together in the recommended amounts give you one awesome cup of Keto Crack Coffee:

What Makes Keto Crack Coffee So Awesome

  • It’s super caffeinated. This stuff will get you hoppin’ like Tuco trying some of Heisenburg’s goods for the first time. (If you’re a Breaking Bad fan, you’ll get this reference. 🙂 )
  • It’s full of healthy fats to keep you full.
  • It has a nice sweet vanilla flavor without being too strong.
  • The almond milk-whipping cream combo is the perfect mixture for a smooth keto coffee treat.
  • It’s absurdly easy to make.

How to Make This Keto Coffee Recipe

Keto Crack Coffee is ridiculously easy to make. Gather your ingredients (check the recipe at the end of the post for the exact amounts), pour into your fancy coffee cup of choice, mix, then top with some Keto Whipped Cream if you’d like. (If you don’t want to make keto whipped cream, you can buy canned whipped cream from the store — just watch the carbs because they do have a bit of sugar in them.)

Course: Drinks

Prep Time: 1 minute
Total Time: 1 minute
Servings: 1
Calories: 229kcal

Ingredients

  • 4-6 oz Death Wish Coffee chilled (adjust amount depending on caffeine tolerance; see recipe notes)
  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 2 tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 10-16 drops liquid stevia (adjust amount depending on sweetness preference)
  • 2-3 tsp MCT oil (adjust amount depending on desired fat intake)
  • keto whipped cream (optional)

Instructions

  • Brew and chill Death Wish Coffee.
  • Add all ingredients to a coffee cup or glass. Using a small whisk or coffee frother, blend until well-combined. The MCT oil will float to the top; this is normal.
  • If desired, top with keto whipped cream. (You can make your own using that recipe or or use a small amount of canned whipped cream.)

Notes

Important note about the caffeine content of Keto Crack Coffee: According to Death Wish Coffee’s FAQ, there are 54.2 mg caffeine per ounce. A typical Dunkin’ Donuts coffee has 12.7 mg per ounce, and a Starbucks coffee has 20.6 mg per ounce. This means it is very strong coffee. That is why the recipe only calls for 4 to 6 ounces, and please drink responsibly! (aka drink it slowly at first to test your tolerance)
If you don’t consume dairy, use nutpods Unsweetened Dairy-Free Creamer instead of the whipping cream.
Nutrition facts do not include optional keto whipped cream. Additionally, they are based on 2 tsp MCT oil, so if you use more, you will need to take that into account.

    • Hi Susy!

Using Death Wish Coffee will boost the caffeine content (hence the name :)) but you can make the recipe with the coffee of your choosing.

I have checked your website and i’ve found many great recipes! This crack coffee was easy to make and excellent.

I use a similar recipe for my coffee(I just couldn’t give it up!) but I like to imusify in my blender so the oil doesn’t float. 🙂 much more palatable.

Hello my name is Tina. A year ago November I stopped smoking. Since then I have gained 50lbs. I have tried everything to lose weight. A friend told me to try keto. I was heavy to start with so the gain has me very unhappy with myself.. Do you have any advice for me to succeed?

        • Hi Tina! I think keto would be great for you to try. I’m going to have some free information about a “keto reset” program later this month. If you’re signed up for my Keto Living List email list, you’ll be the first to hear about it. If you’re not signed up yet, let me know and I can add you. P.S. Congrats on quitting smoking — that is a huge achievement!

Hey there, just recently found this recipe and my hubby & I have been big fans of DWC for a while now so I was super excited to try, definitely a new favorite and super easy to make! Looking forward to trying some more of your stuff!

    • Hi Nathan, Great idea! I haven’t tried that yet (I am soo behind on the cold brew train), but I know it produces better-tasting coffee + more caffeine. I will have to do it soon!

If anyone else is interested, Death Wish has a cold brew tutorial on their site.

  • How can the calorie count of this drink be 229 when MCT is 130/tsp and it calls for 2-3tsp? The math doesn’t add up, what am I missing here?

    • Hi Susan! I’ve seen MCT oils labeled as 100-130 calories/tbsp (the one I use is 130 calories), but never 130 calories/tsp. If yours is labeled as 130 calories/tsp, it sounds like there may have been a labeling error. I would contact the manufacturer to verify.

How do you chill the coffee? Would you recommend making a few days worth and storing it in the fridge for convenience?

    • Hi Toyah! Yes, I just make a few days’ worth (no more than three to keep it fresh) in my coffee pot and then store it in a sealed container in the fridge until I’m ready to use it.

  • Is there a super-strong tasting coffee that is decaf? I’m super sensitive to caffeine, and if I drank this, I wouldn’t sleep for a week!

    • Hi Suzanne! You can just use your favorite decaf coffee. 🙂 Using Death Wish Coffee is more about the caffeine content rather than the flavor, so feel free to use whatever coffee works best for you.

    HA!!!!!
I drink DeathWish every day!!! It is soooo good. I buy mine direct from DW. Same price as Amazon.

I enjoyed this one with heavy cream. I went through all the “nut milks” years ago and they all tasted like skim milk. Bleh! I think I’d rather use Half n Half instead of the “almond milk”. Otherwise tastes great with HWC! Thx!

Really, Keto is relatively new on Pinterest? So weird, it is a several hundred years old used method, invented by the german army doctors i believe, because they had a huge problem with obesity and diabetes, and that is the easiest treatment to revert that, even today 🙂 Not just that, but pretty much all known folk-diseases, asthma, artheritis, heart diseases, cancer (Yes it feeds on carbs, 12x the amount of any human cell, it is something you breath daily, a natural yeast, nothing new, we’ve known about it for over 5.000 years!!!) you name it.

    • Hi Ole – Thank you for the fascinating keto history information! I guess it takes time for society at large to finally catch on. These days, if you say “keto,” everyone knows what you’re talking about! 🙂

I used this recipe with what I had. I don’t handle caffeine very well or should I say others don’t handle me with caffeine well. I used
1/2 packet of Tasters choice instant coffee,
    2/3 cup almond milk -unsweetened,
    1/4 cup HWC,
    4-6 oz instant coffee
    1/2 pump SF vanilla flavoring
1/2 pump SF white chocolate flavoring
1-2 tsp monk fruit to taste
It is quite good. I did not use whipped cream.
So far it is pretty good.
    Thanks for sharing your recipes.

I iced mine not thinking and ended up with chunky MCT oil 😂 I threw it in my vitamix and. Better results. Thank you for sharing this “chilled” recipe. My favorite MCT is omega power creamer “Salted Carmel.” It made eating the iced chunks not so bad!

    • Hi BEX, Thanks so much for the review and sorry about the oil chunks! 😂 I find that MCT oil doesn’t clump up as much when it’s chilled as oils like coconut oil or butter. I just looked at the ingredients for Omega Power Creamer, and it has both coconut oil and ghee (similar to butter) in it so that may have caused the clumping…? Either way, I hope it tasted great!! 🙂

  • Death wish is terrible for your health! It has killed people! The caffeine amount is dangerous and seriously this can not be FDA approved

Not a cold coffee drinker so, I made a cup in the Keurig. 1.5tsp Vanilla, 1.5 MCT, 2 packets of Truvia (it’s my favorite) , and 1 tbs Whipped Cream– OMG It’s Amazing (and I don’t even like coffee)!

    • Hi Carinthia, Thank you so much for the review! I’m honored that you like my recipe even though you don’t like coffee! 🙂

  • Thank you for this! I’ve tried to do ‘bullet-proof coffee’, but I can’t stomach it hot. Cold might work for me!

  • 5 stars
I haven’t made this yet, but I’m going to. I’m going to make it a hot drink instead, and blend it in a blender so the MCT oil doesn’t float. I can’t take that.

Welcome! I’m Jessica.
